The Metropolitan

The Mar Thoma Metropolitan is the spiritual and administrative head of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, which is a Reformed Oriental Church with its roots in the ancient Church of the St. Thomas Christians of India. The Mar Thoma Metropolitan is responsible for overseeing the affairs of the church, including the appointment of bishops and priests, the interpretation of church doctrine, and the conduct of worship services. The position is held for life and the current Mar Thoma Metropolitan is His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, who was enthroned in 2007. The Mar Thoma Metropolitan is highly respected and revered by members of the Mar Thoma Church and is considered to be a spiritual leader and guide.

His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan

The Metropolitan

Mar Theodosius studied at Baselious College, Kottayam (1966) and Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla (1969). After taking a degree in Science he joined Leonard Theological College and took BD Degree in 1972. His ordination as ‘Kasseesa‘ was in the year February 24, 1973. From 1979-1980, he studied Comparative Religions in Viswa Bharathi University, Shanthinikethan. He did his MA and PhD from Mc Master University, Hamilton, Canada in 1980-1986. He was consecrated as Episcopa on December 9, 1989 along with Mar Athanasius and Mar Coorilos.
